YOU MAY CHOOSE TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY

BUT YOU CAN NEVER SAY AGAIN
 THAT YOU DID NOT KNOW.

[William Wilberforce]

You can help end slavery. While shopping, look for the FairTrade or Rugmark symbols. It is the best available guarantee that the product was not made by forced labour. FairTrade is most often found in grocery stores while Rugmark is specifically for carpet or rug products to ensure it was not made by child labour.

  • There are more slaves today than ever before in history.

  • Slavery takes many forms such as forced    labor, trading, and human trafficking.

  •  Some of the most common items produced  by manual-slavery are coffee, cocoa, bananas,  diamonds and gold.

  • In Canada, most victims are runaway girls aged 12-14 years old who were sexually abused as children.

Our goal is to spread the word about human trafficking and modern-day slavery amongst the students and faculty of Acadia, as well as the town of Wolfville. Our ultimate mission is to provide support for victims.

In order for this crisis to end, we need to spread the word as much as possible. While raising awareness is the first step, we believe that action is the most important part in ending the war on slavery.

This year, all profits will be going to a local organization called Open Door. (click here to see their website)

"Open Door Women's Care Centre is a place of help, hope and healing. We know that Nova Scotia youth are sex trafficked and we are here to help. We envision a society where sex trafficking does not exist. We are dedicated to empowering communities and individuals through advocacy, education and resources to eliminate sex trafficking."

Check out our "Take Action" page if you would like to donate.

Currently, there are an estimated 27 million victims of modern-day slavery worldwide. Approximately 80% of human trafficking victims are involved in sexual exploitation - some are as young as 5 years old.
